Which Courses Can You Apply for Through SAMARTH?

The SAMARTH portal covers two major types of programmes offered by colleges and universities across Assam:

1. Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP)

This is the standard Bachelor’s degree programme — B.A., B.Sc., B.Com — now restructured to 4 years as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It is the most sought-after programme for students after Class 12.

2. Five-Year Integrated Masters Programme (FYIMP)

This allows students to complete their graduation and post-graduation in one continuous programme spanning 5 years. It is ideal for students who are clear about their subject of specialisation right from the beginning.

Pro Tip: Under NEP 2020, students now have the flexibility to exit after 1, 2, 3, or 4 years of the FYUGP with a certificate, diploma, degree, or Honours degree respectively. This makes Assam college admissions more flexible than ever before.

How to Apply for Assam College Admission 2026 Through SAMARTH – Step-by-Step Process

The admission process through SAMARTH is designed to be simple and student-friendly. It happens in two broad stages:

Stage 1: Registration & Profile Completion (Open from 11th April 2026)

This stage is about creating your account and filling in all your personal and academic details. You don’t need your Class 12 results for this — do it now!

Stage 2: Course & College Selection (After Class 12 Results)

Once your HS (Class 12) results are declared, you return to the portal and choose your preferred colleges and programmes from the list. Stage 1 remains open even after Stage 2 begins, so late registrants can still apply.

Here is the complete step-by-step application guide:

  1. Visit the Official Portal: Go to the official SAMARTH Assam portal. The direct link is usually available on the Gauhati University and Directorate of Higher Education websites.
  2. Register Yourself: Click on “New Registration” and fill in your basic details — name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID. Important: Your name must exactly match your Class 10 (HSLC) marksheet.
  3. Fill Your Personal & Academic Details: Once registered and logged in, complete your full profile — personal info, Class 10 & Class 12 academic details, address, category (SC/ST/OBC/General), etc.
  4. Upload Required Documents: Scan and upload all necessary documents in the correct format and file size. See the complete documents checklist below.
  5. Select Your Preferred Colleges & Courses: Choose up to 10 colleges and your preferred programmes in order of priority. This step happens after HS results are declared.
  6. Submit & Download Acknowledgement: After final submission, an acknowledgement receipt is generated. Download and print it — you will need it for future reference.

The scheme is applicable to students seeking admission into the 1st year of the following courses:

  • Higher Secondary (H.S.) – Class 11
