Gauhati University has released the GURET Merit List 2025 on August 6, 2025, for PhD admission. Candidates who appeared for the Gauhati University Research Eligibility Test (GURET) can now check and download the merit list from the official website admissions.gauhati.ac.in. The merit list includes the names of shortlisted candidates eligible for admission.

GURET Merit List 2025

Gauhati University has released an official notification regarding the GURET Result 2025. The University will publish the GURET result and the merit list for PhD admissions on August 6 2025, respectively. Applicants can download the merit list from the official Gauhati University website at guonline.in. We will update the result here as soon as it is published.

The merit list will be based only on the marks obtained in the GURET 2025 exam. In case of a tie (when two or more candidates have equal marks), the following criteria will be used to determine their ranking:

• First, the ratio of positive marks to negative marks will be calculated. The candidate with a higher absolute value of this ratio will receive a better rank.
• If the tie persists, the number of unanswered questions will be considered. The candidate with fewer unanswered questions will be ranked higher.
• If there is still no resolution, the candidate who is older will be ranked higher.

Gauhati University PhD Entrance Test – GURET 2025

Gauhati University accepted online applications for the Research Eligibility Test (GURET) 2025 from July 11 to July 21, 2025. GURET 2025 is the gateway for candidates aspiring to pursue a PhD in various subjects. The GU PhD admissions will be conducted from August 13 to 16, 2025. Gauhati University PhD Counselling 2025

Gauhati University PhD Counselling 2025 will be conducted on August 11 and August 12, 2025 after the declaration of the GURET result. This mandatory session will be organized by each department for admissions. Candidates must carry all original documents on the scheduled date. The counselling list containing the required documents can be downloaded online. Details such as time, venue, and reporting instructions will be announced by the respective departments soon.

GURET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

To enroll in a PhD program, you need to have completed a master’s degree in subjects like Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Law, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, or other professional areas from a recognized university.

You should have scored at least 55% marks or its equivalent. If you belong to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) categories or have a disability, the minimum score required is 50%.

Students who are in their final year of postgraduate studies can also apply. But they must share their final scores before the selection list is finalized.

Working professionals need to get a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their current employer to be eligible.

International students don’t need to take the GURET exam. Their admission process can be done through online methods. Make sure to check the official announcement for all the details and requirements.

GURET 2025 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for GURET is as follows:

• The question paper will contain 100 MCQs.
• 1 mark for every correct answer.
• The total marks for the exam will be 100.
• The exam duration is 2 hours only.
• Negative marking: 0.25 marks.
• No marks for unattempted questions.
