The Government of Assam has announced the distribution of cheques under the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme 2024. This initiative is aimed at providing financial assistance to eligible girl students to encourage higher education in the state. The cheque distribution ceremony for selected candidates from Gauhati University will take place on October 6, 2024 (Sunday), at Khanapara, Guwahati.
Selected Candidates Information and Assembly Details
All selected students of Gauhati University under the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme 2024 are requested to assemble at the Convention Centre, Gauhati University (GU) at 7:00 AM on October 6, 2024 (Sunday). The Director of Students’ Welfare (DSW) will be in charge of coordinating the event and ensuring the smooth departure and arrival of students.

A bus facility has been arranged for the selected students, which will depart sharply at 7:30 AM from Gauhati University to Khanapara. Students must arrive on time to avail of the transportation service. The heads of the academic departments of GU have also been instructed to inform the selected students about this schedule.
Objective and Background of Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme
The Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme was announced by the Hon’ble Finance Minister of Assam during the Annual Budget for the Financial Year 2024-25. The scheme aims to support 10 lakh girls (Nijut Moina) with a financial grant as an admission incentive to continue their education in Higher Secondary, Graduation, and Post-Graduation studies. The scheme’s primary objectives include:
- Increasing Enrollment: Promoting higher enrollment of girl students in Higher Education.
- Encouraging Education Beyond Matriculation: Raising the percentage of girls pursuing education beyond Class 10.
- Reducing Dropouts: Minimizing dropout rates among girl students.
- Enhancing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER): Boosting the overall GER of Assam.
- Eliminating Child Marriage: Combating the social evil of child marriage through education.
Financial Assistance Provided Under the Scheme
The scheme provides a structured financial incentive for eligible girl students enrolled in various educational stages. The breakdown of financial assistance is as follows:
1. Class Eleven (Higher Secondary):
- Each eligible girl student will receive Rs. 1,000/- per month for a maximum of ten months, totaling Rs. 10,000/- per year.
2. Graduation First Year (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com):
- Each eligible girl student will receive Rs. 1,250/- per month for a maximum of ten months, totaling Rs. 12,500/- per year.
3. Post-Graduation First Year (M.A./M.Sc./M.Com/B.Ed):
- Each eligible girl student will receive Rs. 2,500/- per month for a maximum of ten months, totaling Rs. 25,000/- per year.
Note: The incentive will not be applicable during vacations that extend beyond one month, such as the summer vacation. For the academic session 2024-25, the benefits will be available for ten months, excluding the months of June and July every year.
