Assam Polytechnic Admission is the official process through which students get admitted into 3-Year Diploma in Engineering and Technology courses offered by the State Government Polytechnics in Assam. This process is managed by the State Council for Technical Education (SCTE) under the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Assam.

There are a total of 4,385 seats available across 26 government polytechnics offering 21 different diploma programmes. Admission is given based on the marks students have scored in their HSLC (Class 10) or equivalent examination — no separate entrance exam is required.

Eligibility Criteria – Who Can Apply?

1. Residence

You must be an Indian Citizen and a Permanent Resident of Assam. A valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) must be produced at the time of counselling. If you do not submit it, your seat may be cancelled at any stage.

2. Educational Qualification

You must have passed the HSLC (Class 10) or equivalent examination in a single sitting with Mathematics and Science as compulsory subjects. Important conditions:

  • No grace marks are allowed in Science and Mathematics.
  • You must have passed both the Theory and Practical/Internal Assessment parts separately in both subjects.

Counselling Process – How Does It Work?

After you apply online, your uploaded documents will be verified by the polytechnic’s Verifying Officers. Once verification is complete, the counselling round will begin. Here is how it works step by step:

  1. Seat Allotment: Seats are allotted based on your eligibility, rank (marks in HSLC), caste/category, course preferences you have filled, and the availability of seats.
  2. Accept the Seat: If a seat is allotted to you, you must log in to the portal and accept it. Download the allotment letter from the portal.
  3. Report to the Institution: Contact the admission coordinator of your allotted polytechnic and report there on the specified date.
  4. Document Verification: The institution will verify all your original documents in person.
  5. Admission Confirmation: Based on the verification, admission will be granted or cancelled as per the norms.
  6. Freeze or Upgrade: After admission, you will be asked to choose either the “Freeze” option (keep your current allotted seat) or the “Upgrade” option (wait for a better seat in the next round, if available).
